IOM Essential Health Benefits Recommendations Report

Recommendations from the Institute of Medicine to the Department of Health and Human Services to develop a process to define the "Essential Health Benefits" (EHB) package. The EHB was developed by the Affordable Care Act "to ensure a more consistent level of benefits," according to the IOM report. "The ACA requires that certain insurance plans—including those participating in the state purchasing exchanges—cover a package of diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic services and products that have been defined as 'essential' by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)."
