CMS Proposed Rule Prohibiting Federal Payments for Health Care-Acquired Conditions

Proposed rule from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services posted in the Federal Register February 17, 2011 implementing a provision in the health care reform law that would prohibit federal payments from Medicaid to hospitals and health care facilities for "health care-acquired conditions" such as hospital-acquired infections. This rule will take effect July 1, 2011.
Final rule published in the Federal Register on June 6, 2011.
